The Standards Our
Trainees Are Built On
KSBTS draws trainees from four departments at RTI — Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, and Building Technology — united by a shared focus on smart building technologies, BMS, IoT, and building automation.
HVAC-R
Refrigeration cycles, cooling loads, psychrometrics, commissioning, and energy efficiency in building environments.
BMS / ICT
Building automation protocols, SCADA, IoT integration, data networks, and smart control systems.
Electrical
Power distribution, controls wiring, instrumentation, and low-voltage systems within intelligent buildings.
KSBTS brings together trainees from Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, and Building Technology — the four RTI departments whose disciplines converge in the smart buildings sector.
Knowledge Benchmarks
KSBTS trainees are introduced to the following industry knowledge frameworks through peer learning and society activities. These are the materials, platforms, and standards the smart buildings industry actually uses — giving our trainees fluency in the language of the field before they graduate.
Rooted in the CDACC Curriculum
Our society activities complement the formal CDACC-accredited programmes offered at RTI across Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, and Building Technology. Peer learning within KSBTS deepens what trainees learn in class — with a particular focus on the smart buildings dimensions of each curriculum.
From BMS integration to safe refrigerant handling practices, KSBTS helps trainees connect their coursework to real industry standards — building the competency Kenya's built environment sector needs.
